Leader of the House and Healthcare and Nutrion Minister Nimal
Siripala de Silva told the Party Leaders meeting in Parliament yesterday
that it is not possible to grant a debate on the issue of whether India
has influenced the Government to stop operations in the North.
"There is a possibility of misunderstanding occurring. If we debate
this issue at this moment as it is a very sensitive topic", he said.
It would also be disadvantages for our country at this juncture. The
National Freedom Front (NFF) and the Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had
earlier requested in writing from Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara to grant an
special debate on the issue of whether India has influenced the
Government to stop military operations in the North.
Parliamentarians Wimal Weerawansa and Vijitha Herath made special
statements on this issue in Parliament yesterday.
He said there is no use in granting such a debate on this issue as
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has already expressed the
Government's views in this regard in the Parliament.
