New Russian envoy in Sri Lanka
V.P. Mikhaylov presented credentials on October 16 to President
Mahinda Rajapaksa as the new Ambassador for the Russian Federation in
Sri Lanka.
Mikhaylov born in 1951 in Moscow spent his childhood in St.
Petersburg.
He obtained his graduation from the Moscow Institute of International
Relations in the Foreign Ministry of Russian Federation specialising in
English, Greek and Amharic languages. After joining the Russian Foreign
Service in 1974, he served in the Russian embassy in Ethiopia. In 1980
he continued his education in the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow. From
1994 to 97 he worked in the Russian Embassy in Greece as a cultural
advisor.
He served in the Russian Embassy in Pakistan as a General Consul from
2003 to 2005.
He has wide experience in both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
He also played an active and important role in initiating and
implementation of eurasian organisations which include all CIS
countries.
Mikhaylov worked in the Asian department in the foreign ministry of
Russian Federation from 2005 to 2008 and has wide experience in working
with the Asian countries.
