Prime Minister on SLBC's Subharathi:
Govt. fully committed to ensure inter-communal harmony
"The Government would not open any talks with the LTTE terrorists
unless and until they lay down arms and renounce Eelam demand"
While the Government is fully committed to ensure inter-communal
harmony, yet some forces are at work to undo such efforts, said Prime
Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka during the 'Subharathi' programme
broadcast by the SLBC recently.
He said the hardcore terrorist Karuna Amman's switch over to
parliamentary politics is a refreshing move. It is the duty of all
democratic governments to open its doors to any terrorist who dares to
choose democratic means.
The government has its plans to hold the Jaffna Municipal Council
elections shortly to be followed by the Provincial Council elections in
the North once the military operations are completed. "The Government
would not open any talks with the LTTE terrorists unless and until they
lay down arms and renounce Eelam demand, the Prime Minister reiterated.
Sri Lanka is the only country where the Government provides food and
medicine to the combatants who wage war against its authority.
People who claimed the war against the LTTE was unwinable should now
open their eyes and see the developments in the war theatre, the Prime
Minister said.
Referring to Major General Janaka Perera's assassination, he said
already three investigation teams have been appointed to probe into the
tragedy.
The Prime Minister also referred to the possibility of a human bomber
choosing an easy target when he failed to approach the Army Commander
who had been provided with strict security during his inspection tour of
Anuradhapura area recently. |
