A five-storeyed building for the benefit of journalists will be
constructed at the Information Department premises.
The foundation stone was laid yesterday under the patronage of Media
and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Media Minister
Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.
The Government will spend Rs. 261 million for the proposed new
building which is scheduled to be completed before 2009 end.
The building will be 35,000 square feet and consist of a library, an
auditorium which can facilitate 400 visitors at a time, a modern
computer laboratory which has 75 computers and three lecture halls.
The special Media Unit of the Information Department will also be
established at the new building. Director of Government Information
Anusha Palpita and Secretary Ministry of Mass Media and Information A.
Dissanayake participated. |
