More UNPers join SLFP

Asela Kuruluwansa, Indika Polkotuwa and Sanjaya Maturata

A batch of 700 UNP activists in the Kandy district renounced their party membership and obtained SLFP membership from Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at a meeting at the Kandy Post Office auditorium on Sunday.

These UNPers representing all 13 electorates in the Kandy district, said the UNP had no future and nothing good will accrue to the country and its people under its present leadership.

They joined the SLFP to support the programme of work carried out by the Government under the efficient leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, they said.

They were confident that the Government would conclude the war and usher in peace very soon. Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Provincial Council A.G. Sirisena also attended this meeting organised by W.H.S. Dhanaratne.
