Book launch
Journalist Bandula R. Gulawatta’s book “Langamata Panahai” will be
launched at a ceremony held under the patronage of Transport Minister
Dalls Alahapperuma at the Horana Vidyaratna hall on Sunday October 12 at
2.30 p.m.
The Ven. Meewanapalane Sumedha, Chief Sanghanayake Thera of the
Western Province will preside.
Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe, Head of the Department of Journalism Colombo
University (Sri Palee Campus) will deliver the keynote address. Ven.
Omalpe Gnanasiri Thera of the Horana Vidyaratne Faculty, CTB Chairman
Tudor Dayaratne, Horana SLFP Chief Organiser Vidura Wickramanayake,
Horana Pradesheeya Sabha Chairman Yasapala Koralage, Western Province
Road Transport Authority Chairman J.M. Hemasiri and Dinamina Managing
Editor Ranjan Amararatne will be among the other speakers.
Memory walk
The annual Memory Walk organised by the Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation
kicks off on October 11 from the Angsana Spa Garden at the Cinnamon
Grand Hotel. This is the sixth year in succession that the walk is
taking place which attracts large crowds helping to create awareness of
this fast spreading disease especially in Sri Lanka.
Public lecture
Sterling Perera, former Vice Chairman, National Education Commission
will give a public lecture on “Issues Regarding Access to Higher
Education in Sri Lanka” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, at the SLAAS
Auditorium 120/10, Vidya Mawatha (Off Wijerama Mawatha), Colombo 07.
Seminar
A public seminar on education organised by the Prayathna People’s
Movement (PPM) will be held at the Colombo Public Library Auditorium at
2 p.m. on October 9. The theme of the seminar is “Supra Grade School for
every child and a better education for the country”.
Three sentenced in Monterro burglary case

Colombo High Court Judge W.A.T. Ratnayake yesterday sentenced three
convicts of a Monterro burglary case to three years rigorous
imprisonment.
The Court sentenced J.T. Vanigaratne, G.K.T. Sampath Senaratne and
L.G. Ajantha Attanayake to three years rigorous imprisonment and also
imposed a fine Rs 10,000 each and another 12 months RI in default.
They were convicted for burglary of a Monterro (65-9819) worth of Rs
3.5 million at Horton Place, Colombo from B.A. Saman Pushpakumara.
They were convicted for threatening Pushpakumara with a firearm.
Death toll stood at 28
The death toll in the yesterday’s suicide attack targeting the
opening of a new North Central Provincial Council Opposition Leader’s
office in Dharmapala Mawatha, near the Anuradhapura bus stand, stood at
28 by yesterday afternoon. Among the dead are:

Johnpulle, Dr. Mrs. Jenita Johnpulle (Wife) Sunil Dissanayake Provincial
