Lankan gems, jewellery glitter at HK fair

Sri Lanka has earned over US$ 2.3 million from its gem and jewellery
sales at Hong Kong Jewellery and Watch Fair held from September 11 to 15
in Hong Kong.

Tillekeratna said, Sri Lanka was able to expand its gem and jewellery
market as with its participation to the Hong Kong exhibition.
Sri Lanka has obtained a continuous monthly order worth US$ 50,000
for its celebrated cut blue sapphires, he said.
Over 2,500 leading gem and jewellery suppliers in Asia were at the
exhibition showcasing their latest designs at their on-line showrooms.
Sri Lankan suppliers have obtained orders from America, Taiwan, Hong
Kong, Thailand and Russia, said Tillekeratna.
The Hong Kong Jewellery and Watch Fair is one of the biggest in the
trade. Sri Lanka participated for the 17th time, he said.
