Sportsmen in alleged visa racket to be produced tomorrow

Four sportsmen and sportswomen who are alleged to have assisted two persons to leave the country on British visas obtained on forged marriage certificates will be produced tomorrow from the Welikada Remand prisons before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan Pilapitiya.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) uncovered the massive visa racket where several athletes are involved.

They have allegedly prepared forged Marriage certificates and obtained visas from an Embassy in Colombo for Muslim and Tamil individuals seeking migration to the UK.

According to CCD Director Senior SP Anura Senanayake, these suspects have obtained over Rs. 3 million per head for arranging a visa.

"We are also looking for a very senior sportswoman who has allegedly involved in this massive visa racket, SSP Senanayake said. Earlier, the CCD arrested the kingpin of the visa racket who was remanded pending the completion of on going investigation, he said.

This key suspect now in custody has been carrying on this racket with the help of leading personalities in society, SSP Senanayake said.
