Sportsmen in alleged visa racket to be produced tomorrow

Four sportsmen and sportswomen who are alleged to have assisted two
persons to leave the country on British visas obtained on forged
marriage certificates will be produced tomorrow from the Welikada Remand
prisons before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge
Gihan Pilapitiya.
The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) uncovered the massive visa racket
where several athletes are involved.
They have allegedly prepared forged Marriage certificates and
obtained visas from an Embassy in Colombo for Muslim and Tamil
individuals seeking migration to the UK.
According to CCD Director Senior SP Anura Senanayake, these suspects
have obtained over Rs. 3 million per head for arranging a visa.
"We are also looking for a very senior sportswoman who has allegedly
involved in this massive visa racket, SSP Senanayake said. Earlier, the
CCD arrested the kingpin of the visa racket who was remanded pending the
completion of on going investigation, he said.
This key suspect now in custody has been carrying on this racket with
the help of leading personalities in society, SSP Senanayake said.
