Rail strike called off

The Engine Drivers and Railway Guards Union and the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union have agreed to call off the train strike following a meeting with Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma held yesterday evening at the Ministry Premises.

Trade Unions agreed to commence the normal train service with immediate effect once Minister Alahapperuma agree to appoint the Intellectuals' Board and present its report after a comprehensive investigation on the colour signal system is carried out. The Minister stressed that all should help President Mahinda Rajapaksa as he is leading a campaign to eliminate terrorism in the country.
