Mahanama upset Joes

Mahanama College scored an upset four wicket victory over St. Joseph's College in their inter school under 17 division one tournament third quarterfinal match worked off at the CCC grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.

Mahanama MV put up a fine performance to dismiss the Josephians for a modest 132 with Chanuka Rupasinghe (4 for 36) and Danushka Gunatilleke (3 for 38) causing most of the damage. In reply Mahanama MV reached their target in 40 overs with good contributions from Danushka Gunatilleke (32), Randika Wellikannage (25) and Lahiru Weerakoon (22 n.o).

The fourth and final quarterfinal fixture between Royal College and St. Benedict's College will be played today at the same venue.

St. Joseph's: 132 in 31.5 overs (R. Thatil 37, C. Kumara 22, C. Rupasinghe 4 for 36, D. Chaturanga 3 for 38, T. Nipendra 2 for 26)

Mahanama MV: 134 for 6 in 40 overs (D. Gunatilleke 32, R. Welikannage 25, L. Weerakoon 22 n.o, D. Dhambarage 3 for 35, R. Thatil 2 for 19) C.D.
