Seventh Asian Youth VB logo launched

The launch of the logo and the web site for the Seventh Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championship was held on Wednesday at Hotel Intercontinental with Minister of Sports and Recreation Gamini Lokuge as chief guest and representatives from diplomatic corp of participating countries.

The championship which gets under way on October 14 will see its end on October 22 with a colourful ceremony scheduled to give the visiting teams and understanding of Sri Lankan cultural values.

The Minister Lokuge addressing the gathering said that sports play a vital role in making a decent society. He thanked the Volleyball Federation which is under the helm of Minister of Ports Development Dilan Perera for the last five years. During this period the Federation not only develop the sports.

But also has done a lot to prove that Sri Lanka is a safe and beautiful place for visitors.

His hard work has been able to conduct many international tournaments which has not only help sport develop its skills and attract more players towards the game. While doing this the tourism has improved heavily. Once these visitors see the situation with their own eyes it will give them a good picture to take to their countries.

This also has helped Sri Lanka to clear the wrong information given through the media to tarnish the image of our country. Minister said this is one of the greatest achievements the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has made towards the country.

He also paid a tribute to India, Japan and Iran who have sent their teams to Sri Lanka for every tournament conducted here and also making available their services to improve the local standards. Diplomatic representatives from these countries were present on the occasion.

The eleven countries participating are China, Chinese Taipei, Australia, Maldives, Iran, Japan, India, Thailand, Kuwait, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka the host country.

The first round matches will be played under two groups and four teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals.

The first round games are scheduled for five days and after a rest day the quarters and semis are played with the final scheduled for October 22. All matches will be played at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
