2009 named European Year of Creativity and Innovation

belgium: The European Parliament on Tuesday backed a European Commission proposal to designate 2009 as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.

The European Year of Creativity and Innovation is a major initiative involving European Union (EU) member states, EU institutions and a wide range of stakeholders.

Each member state will designate a national coordinator who will be responsible for the year's activities at the national or regional level. The European Commission, the EU's executive body, will coordinate activities at the EU level.

Each year, the EU chooses a theme for a campaign aimed at raising public awareness of, and drawing national governments' attention to, a specific issue.
