Hameed Al Hussainiya and Dharmapala soccer champs

Hameed Al Hussainiya National School, Colombo and Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya became Division II and III soccer champions respectively at the all island schools under 19 soccer tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association in conjunction with the Kandy District Schools Football Association and sponsored by Dharmaraja College and worked at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.

In the Division II finals Hameed Al Hussainiya NS won the battle against Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala after a gruelling battle. The scores at the end of the regulation time was blank. In the penalty shoot out which followed where ten kicks at goal was taken Hameed Al Hussainiya edged out their opponents 5-4 in a thriller.

Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya lifted the schools Division III title by defeating Aqsa Vidyalaya, Kinniya 1-0 in a thriller after leading 1-0 at the breather.

Dharmapala Vidyalaya scored their winning goal through centre forward Isuru Sandaruwan.

The last quarter final saw the ultimate champions Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya being held to a scoreless draw by Kirillawala Maha Vidyalaya, Kadawatha but the Palians won 3-2 after a penalty shoot out. In the semi finals Carey College beat Al Aqsa Vidyalaya, Kinniya 3-0 and Dharmapala Vidyalaya got the better of Mahanama College Kandy 1-0.

The losers final saw Carey College being held to a one all draw by Mahanama College, Kandy but edged out their opponents 3-2 after a penalty shoot out to clinch the third place.

On the final day Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Range Pujitha Jayasundera was the Chief Guest.
