U-17 hockey commenced in Kandy

Royal College, Colombo put up a fine performance to defeat the strong St. Thomas College, Matale 2_1 on the opening day of the all island schools boys under 17 hockey tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association which is now being played at Edward Park, Matale. At half time Royal led 1-0.

The tournament will be continued today at Bernard Aluwihare Stadium and Edward Park, Matale.

The results of other matches played yesterday were Trinity College beat Richmond College, Galle 4-0, Vijaya College, Matale beat Sri Sumangala College, Kandy 3-0, Christ Church College, Matale beat Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, 3-1, Sri Sumangala College, Kandy beat Menikdiwela Central College 8-0, Nalanda College beat Dharmaraja College 2-1, Ananda College beat Menikdiwela Central College 9-0, Royal College beat Trinity College

4-1, Christ Church College beat Kingswood College 1-0, St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena drew with Kingswood College one all.

Seetha Devi two wins in the girls section. Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy scored two goals wins on the first day of the all island schools girls under 17 hockey tournament at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium and Edward Park, Matale yesterday.

In the first day Seetha Devi BV beat Museaus College, 7-0 after leading 3-0 at half time.

The goal scores for Seetha Devi BV were Geethika Nandasena (2), Akila Ranasinghe (2), Upeksha Tillekeratne (1), Nalani Dissanayake (1), Tharika Panditharatne (1), Seetha Devi BV scored their second win by defeating Christ Church College, Matale 4-0. At half time Devi BV led 2-0.

St Anthony’s Girls College Katugastota scored the biggest upset for the day when they beat Yasodara Vidyalaya, Colombo 1-0, after a scoreless first half.

The results of other matches played yesterday were President’s College Matale beat Ladies College, Colombo 3-2 Pushpadana BV beat Sangamitta BV, Matale 4-1, Visakha Vidyalaya beat Girls High School, Kandy 3-0
