New road from Puttalam to Madhu Church

All arrangements have been made to construct a new road from Puttalam
to Madhu Church through the coastal belt, said Highways and Highways
Development Minister T. B. Ekanayake at the opening of the Pilimatalawa
- Malgammana and Kiribathkumbura - Diyapulagoda roads relaid at a cost
of Rs. 344 million funded by JAICA, Japanese agency. He said the sum of
Rs. 10 million provided to each electrorate for road development would
be increased to Rs. 15 million in the next budget. Roads and briges are
being constructed on a large scale throughout the country under the
leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The new Colombo-Kandy expressway financed by the World Bank will
minimise the distance by two hours. A supplementary provision of Rs. 45
million has been made for development of roads under Provincial Councils
and Pradeshiya Sabhas. Our Government is fully commented to strengthen
the rural economy, the Minister reiterated.
