ITI ready to undertake milk powder testing
The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) has the equipment and the
expertise to undertake the testing of milk powder following up on the
Chinese milk powder contamination alarm, the Institute said yesterday.
The Chemical and Microbiology Laboratory of the ITI is in a position
to carry out the test on milk powder for detection of contamination with
Melamine.
It is an internationally accredited laboratory that has received
international accreditationfrom the Swedish Board for Accreditation and
Conformity (SWEDAC) as per the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard.
The ITI has informed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority
and the Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Marketing Development,
Cooperatives and Consumer Services of the availability of the equipment
and expertise for the testing of the milk powder and it hopeful that the
locally available facility will be used to clear doubts of any
contaminated milk powder having entered the Sri Lankan market.
ITI facilities are available to the private sector including
companies marketing milk powder. |
