Milk powder samples sent for lab tests

The Government had got the assistance of world recognised laboratories no sooner the milk powder poisoning incident was reported from China, Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Services Minister Bandula Gunewardena said.

Milk powder samples of five multinational and local companies in producing and packeting milk powder to the local market were sent for laboratory tests to an internationally renowned laboratory in Singapore, he said. The Minister said all other companies have also been informed to send their samples for laboratory tests to get a certificate that they do not contain harmful ingredients.

Speaking on 'low weight' Liquified Petroleum Gas cylinders, the Minister said the Government has decided to introduce a scale at every gas outlet.
