Businessman, trishaw driver shot dead

A leading businessman Al Haj N.S.D. Aness (56) was gunned down by an unknown person in the early hours of yesterday in Hambantota, police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

He was shot dead near the Hambantota ice factory at around 5.30am. "The gunmen who had come on a motorcycle fired at the victim and fled the area", SSP Gunasekera added. Meanwhile, a trishaw driver was gunned down by unknown suspects on Tuesday night in Aluthmawatha, Modara. SSP Gunasekera said K.N.Fernando a resident of Ibbegamwatte, Aluthmawatha was shot dead by unidentified suspects who had come on a motorcycle on Tuesday at around 8.45pm.

Modara police are conducting investigations.
