Sri Lanka Tourism promotes domestic tourism
In a new strategic push to spur domestic tourism, Sri Lanka Tourism
has launched Narabamu Sri Lanka a new 360 degree campaign to help Sri
Lankans travelling locally, to discover an array of fresh attractions
spread throughout the island.
Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, George Michael said, “Sri Lanka
has so much to offer for the discerning traveller. We believe this

The
Government has decided to hand over all the hotels, motels and
restaurants run by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) back to
Pradeshiya Sabahas. There are 20 properties owned by the UDA.
Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, George Michael said these
were given to the UDA during President Premadasa’s time. “It was
a political decision,” he said.
It is understood that this was done as the standards of these
properties have deteriorated. It’s also understood that some of
these properties would be given back to the private sector to
manage to ensure quality. |

interest among travellers, will create awareness at the
community level and encourage them to conserve their local history and
heritage.”
The 360 degree communications campaign will include two television
programmes, an elaborate series of stories and visuals to be published
in newspapers and magazines and a website which will bring together both
the print and television campaigns along with much more information,
special offers from hotels and other service providers and useful
information for travellers.
Director General, Sri Lanka Tourism, Dilip Mudadeniya said in many
countries revenue generated from domestic tourism is more than
international tourism.
“In UK, revenue from domestic tourism was at 20 billion pounds as
against half of that generated from international tourism,” he said.
In New Zealand international tourism revenue was 8. 8 billion while
revenue generated from domestic tourism was 11.3 billion.
Two of Sri Lanka’s highly acclaimed media and cinema personalities,
Jackson Anthony and Hema Nalin Karunarathne will bring their individual
trademark presentation styles in designing the two television programmes.
The campaign will be launched in the print media with the first
visuals appearing in papers from September 25. The website at
www.narambamusrilanka.travel is already online and contains general
information about each province. |
