Fillip for rural development under Mahinda Chintana - Mass Media Minister

A significant infrastructural improvement is presently taking place even in remote rural backward localities in the country under the Mahinda Chintana concept of the President said Minister of Mass Media Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana.

He was addressing a public meeting at Medakuttiya in Seenipelle in the division of Divisional Secretariat Mulatiyana recently.

He said despite numerous obstacles on account of dragging on of LTTE terrorism, Sri Lanka is heading for permanent peace and sustainable socio economic stability under the experienced leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Our brave and valiant security forces are successfully continuing with their humanitarium mission against LTTE terrorism.

The destruction of terrorism in Sri Lanka would be imminent. The Minister said the fullest support and Co-operation of all parties would be indispensable to accelerate the process of development and usher durable peace in Sri Lanka. The Government has not curtailed the country’s economic development activities due to humanitarian operations in the North.

The vast development projects such as constructions of the sea port and airport at Hambantota, reawakening of the Eastern Province and many other development projects have been initiated covering the whole country by the Government.

Referring to welfare activities done by the “Laksman Yapa Abeywardana Foundation” in the Matara district, he said high priority has been extended to enhance livelihood promotion activities of low income families.

Provision of books and stationery for clever and talented students of low income families, uniforms for Dhamma school teachers, water tanks, agricultural tool kits and various planting materials for Samurdhi beneficiaries are also included in them. The Minister said no political or any other afficiliations would be considered in the performance of these common and welfare services.

Sunil Elledeniya, chairman, Mulatiyana Pradeshiya Sabha said that Seenipelle, Madakuttiya and Dolahena areas have been backward villages in the Mulatiyana Pradeshiya Sabha division. Residents had to undergo immense hardships and difficulties under these circumstances.

He expressed his deep sense of gratitude to Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena for making financial allocations for the construction of the Seenipelle-Dolahena Medakuttiya rural electrification scheme.

Minister of Mass Media Laksman Yapa Abeywardena commissioned the newly constructed Seenipelle-Medakuttiya-Dolahena rural electricity scheme constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 million. Distribution of water tanks, agriculture tools kits and also tea saplings for Samurdhi beneficiaries was done by him.

The meeting was well attended by invitees and residents.
