renal complications and has been recommended urgent kidney transplant
and in need of a B+ kidney.

ICES library moved to Barnes Place
The International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) library has been
shifted temporarily to 83A, Barnes Place, Colombo 07 due to major
repairs to the ICES Building at 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8.
The Library hours will be 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on weekdays only
telephone - 0112-685085, 2679745.
School sans English teacher
There is no English teacher at the Kalaweldeniya Vidyalaya in the
Hatton educational zone in the Nuwara Eliya district.
As a result, students of the rural school having classes from Grade
One to Grade Eleven are in a quandary to study the subject of English
language.
Therefore the school development society appeals to the educational
authorities to appoint an English teacher for the Kalaweldeniya
Vidyalaya soon.
Protest campaign
JVP will hold a protest campaign, to pressurize the Government to
reduce oil prices, near the lipton circle at 12.00 p.m. today.
Kingswood Founder’s Day service
The traditional service of Thanksgiving commemorate the birth
anniversary of Louis Edmund Bla’ze (Founder of Kingswood College Kandy),
will be held on September 27.
The service which is organised by the Colombo Branch of the Kingswood
Union will take place at the Methodist Church, Kollupitiya commencing at
5.30 p.m. This year the service will be conducted by Herbert Jayasuriya
and will be followed by fellowship. This year marks the 147th birth
anniversary of this great educationist, poet, visionary and Gentleman of
Kingswood.
Get-together
The Old Boys Association of the Asoka Vidyalaya, Maradana, Colombo
has organised an annual get-together on September 26 at Royal Park
Hotel, Kiribathgoda from 7.00 p.m. onwards. The old boys of the school
are invited to attend this colourful night with many more entertainment.

Workshop
A workshop on Developing Leadership Skills, must have quality to
succeed organised by the Women’s Chamber of Industries and Commerce will
be held on September 26 and 27 from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at Galadari
Hotel, Colombo.
Chief speaker will be K.V. Ratnam, from India.
Concert to celebrate Universal Children’s Day
The Children of Santosa Special School will stage a concert to
celebrate the Universal Children’s Day on October 01 at 5 p.m. at the
Pamunugama Maha Vidyalaya “Jayanthi Hall” Bopitiya.
This concert will give these children the opportunity to develop
their hidden talents as well as to give the society the opportunity to
realise what special children could accomplish.
International Deaf Day
The International Deaf Day falls on the last Sunday during September
of every year all over the world. This day is held to create awareness
among the public to show how much the deaf could contribute to society
and the country’s economic growth.
President, deaf school past pupils’ association, the school for the
deaf, Ratmalana Shivantha Vivekanandan stated that the International
deaf Day will be held on September 28 at the school for the Deaf
grounds, Borupana Road Ratmalana, commencing at 9.00 a.m.
Cambrian walk
The 12th annual Cambrian walk-2008 organised by the Prince of Wales
College School Development Society with the assistance of Old Boys
Association will be held on September 27 commencing at 8 a.m. from the
college premises.
The proceedings of the walk will be utilise for the development work
and the sports activities of the school.
Sing-a-long evening
The Colombo Branch of the Maris Stella College OBA will present a
Sing-A-Long Evening on October 4 at the BMICH Banquet Hall. The event
will be compered by Dr. Vijay Corea.
Proceeds will be for the Brother Nizier Memorial Fund for
Scholarships for needy students.
