Literary Rites 2008: a celebration of writers, rituals, and rights

4.30pm on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of September at The Study, 10, Alwis Place, Colombo 3.

Among other things writing has been described as a celebration of self expression, a force for social change and a compulsive disorder. Have you ever wondered what writing is all about?

How an author weaves from a few ideas and incidents characters, plots and poetry? What an author experiences while engaging in the semi-mystical task of creating a force as powerful as literature; which possesses the potential to cause revolution, reforms and repentance?

What spark of inspiration compels a writer to write? Do you find writing merely an interesting phenomenon, or do you wish to succumb to the fiendish urge to participate in this arcane rite?

Discuss the art, craft or mystery of literary writing with Ameena Hussein, Simon Harris and Yasmin Gooneratne on the 27th of September and Neluka Silva, Seneka Abeyratne, and Vivimarie Vanderpoorten on the 28th of September, in an intimate, informal forum.

Hosted by The Interact Club of The Study in the breezy cloisters of this A level College at 10, Alwis Place, Colombo 3, Literary Rites promises two afternoons of creative stimulus, guidance and ideas combined with active discussion and refreshments to keep you going.

Be prepared to be exposed to the power, idiosyncrasies and experiences that make writing the literary rite it is. Let the authors take you on a journey of discovery; examining and explaining the way writing has changed and affected their lives and challenging you to do the same.

Also this journey provides the Interact Club of the Study with the necessary funds for the year 2008/2009 and part of the proceeds will be used to encourage young writers.
