Minister refuses to ratify team
The Minister of Sports and Public Recreation, Gamini Lokuge has
refused to ratify the Sri Lanka cricket team for the up-coming
quadrangular tournament in Canada as the Team Manager's name was not
included in the 15-member squad announced by the national selectors.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chief Executive Officer Duleep Mendis said
that the Interim Committee will meet this week to select the Team
Manager with former SSC and Sri Lanka player Nishantha Ranatunga tipped
to takeover the new position.
Ranatunga will probably replace Charith Senanayake who recently
tookover a new appointment as the Head of Marketing of SLC after a
successful stint with the Sri Lanka team during the home Test and One
Day International series against India.
The Sri Lanka team submitted for approval: Mahela Jayawardena
(Captain), Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Udawatte, Chamara Kapugedera, Jehan
Mubarak, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Farveez Maharoof,
Nuwan Kulasekara, Tilina Thushara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilina Kandamby,
Dilhara Fernando, Dilhara Lokuhettige and Kaushalya Weeraratne.
