Ratnayake the MCA’s new Snooker Champ
Tharanga N. Ratnayake, (John Keells Group - DHL) playing MCA Snooker
for the first time, emerged as the new champion, beating the fancied
Milinda Mallikaarachchi, formally of Mackwoods in the final of the
Purico-MCA sixth Snooker Championship which concluded at the MCA table
over the week end.
Ratnayake on his climb to the final, pushed aside, experienced H.U.U.
Buddhima (Prestige Automobile) in the pre-quarters; bottom seed, Basil
Perera (V-Care) in the quarters and the dark horse, Roshan Iddamalgoda (Mabroc
Teas) in the Semis.
In the final Ratnayeake beat Mallikaarachchi in straight frames
69/26, 38/59 & 62/22.
K.H. Srisoma, who is the present national Billiard title and also a
record 8 national titles was graced the Final on the invitation extended
by the Chairman of MCA Indoor Recreation Committee and Tournament
Marshal, Ameer Muthuwappa. Sirisoma displayed a few exhibition shots,
which left the spectators spell bounded.
Awards were presented by Nishan Navaratne, Director Tea Infusions (Pvt)
Ltd., who was the Chief Guest, along with the MCA President, Tissa
Madigasekera.
