Another Nepali Communist Party to join Gov’t
The Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-ML) decided to
join the government on Monday. The CPN-ML on Monday decided to join the
government led by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), local TV
channel Kantipur reported.
The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), the third
largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), together with most of
other CA parties, elected Chairman Prachanda of the single largest CPN-M
the first prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on
Aug. 15.
The cabinet got its full shape on Aug. 31 when the CPN-ML decided to
remain away from the government owing to its dissatisfaction over not
getting the ministry it claimed.
The CPN-ML central committee meeting decided to participate in the
government with the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare,
which now was looked after by Prime Minister Prachanda. Earlier, the
party had claimed the Ministry for Land Reforms and Management.
According to the party, Dambar Shrestha has been picked up as the
minister, and Man Bahadur Shahi as the minister of state. The CPN-ML won
nine seats in the 601-seat CA after the April elections.
