“Ajantha still recollects his small beginnings. He always keeps in
touch with me, and seeks my advice, Lucky recounts. Lucky after leaving
school had his basic training in Australia’s North Kofeel Cricket
Academy few years ago.
After his return to the island his maiden job was to set up a cricket
academy at his Alma Mater, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, where he started his
cricket life.
A right-hand batsman and a good fielder, he played for the college’s
senior team whilst being a member of the under-15 junior team.
Later he captained the college 1988, 89. He set a record after
scoring 1,493 in 13 innings. It included four centuries and one double
century.
Lucky was adjudged the best outstation cricketer and the Best School
runner-up batsman and fielder. He also played for the under-19 national
team which toured Bangladesh under veteran Mavan Atapattu.
Lucky is Ananda College’s cricket coach (a full time job) which he
fulfills with commitment and dedication with the whole intention of
making future stars for Sri Lanka.
