Indian Navy intensifies patrols

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indian Navy have intensified their patrolling in Palk Straits, following information that LTTE cadres injured in war with Sri Lankan forces were planning to cross over to India clandestinely.

Defence services here have deployed patrol vessels, gun ships, interceptor boats and hovercrafts of ICG and Indian Navy, to keep vigil along the International Maritime Boundary Line. According to information reaching intelligence agencies, LTTE cadets injured in the on-going hostilities had no proper medical facilities.

Therefore, the soldiers and officers of the LTTE were planning to cross over to Tamil Nadu for treatment. A senior defence official said that intensive patrolling was launched three days ago based on reliable information.
