JHU seeks action against pro-LTTE NGOs, HR groups

The Jathika Hela Urumaya has requested the Government to take stern action against several Colombo based non-state human rights actors and fundamentalist groups for supporting LTTE leader Prabhakaran.

General Secretary of Jathika Hela Urumaya, Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera said, it has been found that the office buildings, which were used by these human rights actors and their NGO groups in the Wanni, have turned into LTTE activity centres.

These human rights actors went on rampage and made statements to the international community that a large number of Tamil civilians were on the verge of being displaced in the event that the security forces should start military operations in Mallavi, no sooner than they learned that the troupes were about to take their first step to clear that area, the Ven. Thera said.

As a matter of fact, if they had any genuine sympathy towards innocent Tamil civilians that live in Mallavi in the Wanni, they would have spoken on behalf of the human rights of these civilians and how they are used by the LTTE as human shields, he pointed out.

They have so far been unable to raise their voice on behalf of the plight of these innocent civilians or for their human rights before the international community, he said.

This stands to prove that they are interested in protecting Prabhakaran and not in protecting the innocent civilians nor their human rights, he explained.

Just when the Secretary of Defence ordered these activists to leave uncleared areas, the Colombo Agents of these human rights organizations came up protesting it under the banner of innocence of civilians to prevent any action being taken against the LTTE when in point of fact that they wanted to save Prabhakaran and his pack to gamble their way in for dollars, Euros and kroners through their foreign funding channels.

These people were upset and sad over the Defence Secretary's order that all NGOs should take their operations out of uncleared areas. What they should know is that the office buildings which were used by those activists have become functioning centres of the terrorists. Some of them have functioned as LTTE satellite centres and others their medical centres, he pointed out.

"They very well aware about the situation. They act as if they were blind and deaf to their advantage because the end of Tiger terrorism means an end to their lucrative human rights trade," he said.

Therefore we have called upon the Government to take stern action against these Colombo Agents who have placed the country's sovereignty at risk by various treacherous deeds under the banner of human rights, the Ven. Thera said.
