Army Commander inspects regained areas in Mannar
Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka yesterday toured
Mannar to take stock of the new security developments, following the
most clearance of the entire area from terrorist grips.

The Army Commander; his meeting with Division and Brigade Commanders
at the Mannar Area Headquarters before his brief visit to a few
newly-cleared areas, focused largely on matters connected to acceptance
of displaced civilians entering Mannar area, ongoing military attacks
against Tiger strongholds in the Mullaittivu and Killinochchi districts
and pending operations, administrative and other logistics.
Lieutenant General Fonseka received a comprehensive update of the
security concerns from Wanni Security Forces Commander Major General
Jagath Jayasuriya, Mannar Area Commander and other military commanders
in the Divisions and Brigades before the Commander expressed his views
on their contributions and instructed accordingly. During the
interaction, he also specifically made inquiries into the facilities and
infrastructure in two major IDP centres in the Mannar sector where those
families are presently relocated until the government sponsored
resettlement programmes get fully under way.
Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka expressed his satisfaction over the
Manner, the Security Forces overpowered the weekend Black Tigers’
abortive attempts on the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters complex, a
few days ago . |
