Highways Act to be amended

The Highways Ministry has decided to amend the Highways Act.

Highways Minister T.B. Ekanayake revealing this decision at the Cabinet briefing, said the amendment is made to solve problems arising at obtaining lands for the construction of highways.

Minister Ekanayake stated that several problems arose in attempts to obtain lands for the construction of the Southern express ways and certain people even went before courts. The Minister said such problems would be solved through this amendment.


Moonshine haul

The Anti Vice Squad of Walana nabbed a haul of moonshine from a Kasippu brewery in Dambaduraya, Seeduwa yesterday.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the Walana Anti Vice Squad rounded up the Dambaduraya area and seized 177 barrels of Goda from the Kasippu brewery.
