New anti-noise pollution regulations after SC case

KOTTE: Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka yesterday told Parliament that the new regulations to
prevent noise pollution will be brought before the House once the
Supreme Court case pertaining to the use of loudspeakers is concluded.
The Minister said a Sub Committee headed by Prime Minister Rathnasiri
Wickramanayaka has been appointed to study the court order given on the
use of loudspeakers.
After considering the proposals of this committee, new regulations
will be formulated', the Minister said.
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunewardena, Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva,
Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof. G. L. Peris
and Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogallagama are members of this Sub
Committee.
Minister Ranawaka was moving the orders under the National
Environment Act in Parliament yesterday. |
