Gampaha District S and LSA swimming champions

The Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association team emerged champions at the 2008 Gampaha District Swimming Meet conducted by Biyagama Swimming Diving and Life Saving Association.

The swimming meet was held at Gampaha Nawaloka swimming pool recently.

The Biyagama Swimming, Diving and Life Saving Association team finished second while Andiambalama Safety Swimming School team ended up third.

The chief guest at the meet was 306 B 02 Lions District Vice Governor Kingsley Bernard.

Biyagama Lions Club Chairman Mrs. Lekha Korale, Secretary U. L. Hemakumara Gunasekara and Treasurer Ajith Korale were present at the meet.

The Gampaha District Swimming Meet attracts many young swimmers of the area and over the years the event has become a much looked forward to event by sports enthusiasts of the area.

Champions:

Schools (boys): Kelaniya President's College.

Schools (girls): Gampaha Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya.

Mixed schools: Gampaha Regent International College.

Champion swimmers:

Under-10 boys: Dineth Sanjula Jayakody (Negombo Maris Stella College).

Under-10 girls: Nilmini Bagyawatta (Kelaniya Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Under-12 boys: Thisara Wickramarachchi (Kelaniya President's College).

Under-12 girls: Hasini Gunasekara (Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Under-14 boys: Avin Abeyratne (Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Under-14 girls: Tashia Dias (Andiambalama Safety Swimming School).

Under-16 boys: Reyomal Vendervalt (Kelaniya Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Under-16 girls: Dilshani Gunasekara (Andiambalama Safety Swimming School).

Under-19 boys: Janitha Madushanka Abraham (Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Under-19 girls: Charitha Deshani (Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Over-19 boys: Kamal Hiran (Biyagama Swimming, Diving and Life Saving Association).

Over-19 girls: Surangi Lewis (Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association).

Twenty six schools and sports clubs in the Gampaha district participated.
