Stubbs Shield for Sylvestrians

St. Sylvester's College Kandy put up a pleasing performance to win the Stubbs Shield at the All Island School Games boxing championships concluded at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium in Colombo yesterday.

The Sylvestrians collected a total of 25 points to finish well ahead of the runners up Vidyaratne College Horana who managed to collect 20 points. Royal College Colombo were placed third with 17 points.

Meanwhile W. N. C. Alwis of Bandaranaike MMV Veyangoda was named Best Boxer and W. J. Surendra of Seevali MMV was picked as the Best Loser in the senior category.

In addition M. R. Sandaruwan from Vidyaratne College Horana was selected as the Best Boxer and E. W. I. Aravinda from St. Sylvester's College was named Best Loser in the junior category.

The President of the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and vice president National Olympic Committee (NOC) Dian Gomes was the chief guest and distributed the awards.
