Driver who ignored halt order shot dead

A van that disobeyed the orders to stop was shot at by the Army motorbike squad at Kottawa junction yesterday.

According to Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera, the 119 Police Emergency Service had received a massage that a woman was being kidnapped by this van and traffic bikes of Kottawa and other Police stations were kept on alert to stop the vehicle.

The Army bike squad gave chase and fired at the van after traffic bikes failed to stop the vehicle. The driver died on admission to the hospital and three Army personnel also sustained injuries.
