Akbar Brothers emerged the best exporter of 2006 at the 17th
Presidential Exports Awards 2006 held at the Presidential Secretariat
yesterday . The best small and medium scale enterprise was Seylon
Aquatics while the Best Sri Lankan Brand Exporter 2006 was Euro Scan
Exports.
Quick Tea was awarded the Exporter to the highest number of
destinations.
Chairman/Managing Director, Euro Scan Exports, Anslem B. Perera said
relocating their production facilities to cheaper neighbouring countries
only cripples the growth of the national economy by eliminating
employment opportunities.
Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka said the eradication of
terrorism was a must to bring-about economic prosperity to the country.
He said top exporters should be acknowledged and felicitated in
recognition and in appreciation of their contribution to the economic
well-being.
The Prime Minister noted that in the contemporary open markets of
today, our industrialists and entrepreneurs had the ability and the
capacity to venture into vivid spheres of industry, which in turn could
be assessed and evaluated.
To penetrate into the markets and be recognised therein, the products
should be of high quality. Following the recognition of their products
they should then strive to sustain and maintain their market share.
The markets are now open for indigenous entrepreneurs to tap and
penetrate international markets as well. |
