Wadigamangawa joins Govt ranks

Wadigamangawa resigned his post yesterday and crossed over to the
Government at the Council Meeting.
He was warmly received by the Chief Minister Athula Wijesuriya and
other members.
Later NWPC Chairman Dharmasiri Dassanayake appointed the Chief
Organiser of the Opposition Shamal Prasanna Senarath as the Opposition
Leader NWPC.
Two killed in train-bike Rafik Jalaldeen mishap
Two people died when a motorcycle collided with a Vavuniya bound
train at the Wewella railway crossing, Hikkaduwa on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the motorcycle collided
with the second compartment of the Rajarata Rejina train which started
from Matara at around 12.45 p.m. “I.T.N. Niluka was killed on the spot
and her husband who was critically injured succumbed to his injuries
last morning at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital,” SSP Gunasekera told
the Daily News.
This unprotected railway crossing was guarded by a person SSP
Gunasekera said. However, he said the guard had attempted to stop the
motorcyclist crossing the railway but the rider collided with the train.
The victims were residents of Hikkaduwa. Hikkaduwa police are
investigating.
India reduces sightseeing fares for SAARC tourists
The Archaeological Department of India has reduced the fare for the
tourists sight-seeing the archaeological monuments to promote mutual
understanding among the people of SAARC countries.
The Department, under the Cultural Ministry of Indian Central
Government has issued a special Gazette Notification in this regard.
According to this Gazette Notification, tourists from the SAARC
countries visiting the archaeological sites under the Department of
Archaeology of India have to pay the reduced rate of Rs. 10 as admission
fee.
This reduced admission fee is applicable to the tourists of all SAARC
countries including Sri Lanka.
