The fund provides financial assistance to certain areas in the health
sector which do not receive funds from the Central Government.
The Central Government cannot fund State health institutions which
comes under the purview of the Provincial Councils.
These health institutions need funding as the Provincial Councils do
not have adequate funds to develop them.
The National Lotteries Board, local and foreign donor agencies,
individual donors provide financial assistance to this fund. The public
can make their donations to this fund voluntarily.
The Government expects to increase annual allocation for the free
health service by 15 per cent from next year. WHO Representative for Sri
Lanka Dr. Agostino Borra donated Rs. 100,000 to the National Health
Development Fund at the ceremony. |
