Bangladesh, India agree to take actions against militants
BANGLADESH: Bangladesh and India Sunday agreed to take action against
militants and insurgent outfits and reaffirmed their commitment not to
allow their territories to be used for any activity inimical to each
other's interests.
The two sides also agreed to take steps against smuggling of arms,
ammunitions, explosives and fake currency.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Bangladeshi Home
Secretary Abdul Karim and his Indian counterpart Madhukar Gupta that
ended here Sunday.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, the Bangladesh home
secretary said India has assured that steps would be taken to minimize
the civilian killings by Indian border guards.
According to Bangladesh's official statistics, around 165 Bangladeshi
civilians, mostly cattle traders, were killed by the Indian border
guards this year, which is a major concern of Dhaka.
