Sarkozy's popularity rating at six-month high

FRANCE: French President Nicolas Sarkozy's popularity rating rose to a six-month high in August, boosted by his high-profile trips to conflict zones Afghanistan and Georgia, a new poll to be published on Thursday has found.

Pollsters Ipsos said on their website that 44 percent of those interviewed had a favourable opinion of Sarkozy, up 5 percent from the previous month, while 52 percent had a negative view, down 5 percent.

Earlier this year, Sarkozy's popularity ratings hit record lows for a president in the first 12 months of his term.
