CA takes up phone registration case

The Court of Appeal yesterday issued notice on the Telecommunications
Regulatory Commission and the Defence Secretary in the Writ Application
filed by the an Attorney-at-Law challenging the registration of the
ownership of the mobile and CDMA telephones.
The Bench comprised Justice Ms. Chandra Ekanayake and Anil Gooneratne
PC. Petitioner Attorney-at-Law Sudharshana Gunawardane cited several
respondents including the Chairman of the Telecommunication Regulatory
Commission and the Secretary of Defence.
Counsel J.C. Weliamuna for the petitioner submitted that ownership
registration of the mobile and CDMA phones would deprive the use of such
phones even by the family members other than the owner.
He submitted that the registration was illegal and arbitrary.
The petitioner sought to null and void the notice issued by the
respondents. J.C. Weliamuna instructed by Lilanthi de Silva appeared for
the petitioner.The notice is returnable on October 03. |
