Look out for new moon for Ramazan month

A conference will be held under the auspices of the Colombo Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on September 1 immediately after Maghrib prayers to decide the commencement of the Islamic Holy month of Ramazan - Hijri 1429 on the evidence of sighting the new moon any part of Sri Lanka.

The Colombo Grand Mosque appealed to Muslims to look out for the new moon on September 1 immediately after Magrib (6.19 p.m.). If the new moon is sighted, inform the Colombo Grand Mosque on (011) 2432110, 2390783, 2434651, 0777-366099.


Workshop to upgrade turmeric cultivation

A national workshop to upgrade tumeric cultivation will be held at the Export Agriculture Training Institute today.

Rs. 125 million is spent annually to the import of the commodity since the local produce fails to meet the domestic demand.

With the completion of the Api Wawamu - Rata Nagamu food production campaign by 2010, it is estimated that the domestic demand for tumeric could be adequately met.


Delwala Sansadaya Get-together

The annual get-together of the Delwala Sansadaya, organised by the decedents of Asmadala, Nugawela, Delwala, Jayawardene and Aluvihare families will be held tomorrow at 9.00 a.m. at Paragammana Sanasa premises, Kegalle.

The occasion marks the fifth anniversary of the Delwala Sansadaya.


Founders’ Day

The Old Boys’ Association of Velautham Maha Vidyalayam, Point Pedro (Colombo Branch) will celebrate its Founders’ Day at the Tamil Sangam, Sangarapillai Hall, Rudra Mawatha, Wellawatte tomorrow at 5.30 p.m.

Association members are requested to be present with their families.

The Annual General Meeting and the election of office-bearers of the Old Boys’ Association of Sri Vibhuthi Jathika Pasala Battaramulla will be held on Sunday at 9.30 a.m. at the school.


Calligraphic exhibition
