Founder’s Day of Point Pedro Velautham Maha Vidyalayam
The Point Pedro Velautham Maha Vidyalayam is celebrating its
Founder’s Day (August 30) at Colombo Tamil Sangam, Colombo-6 commencing
at 5 p.m.
Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo N.
Selvakkumaran will be the chief guest. S. Ahambasanathan, former
principal of Velautham Maha Vidyalayam and President of the Old
Students’ Association (Colombo branch) will preside.
The welcome speech will be delivered by Bala Vairavanathan, a veteran
writer and author of several Tamil books.
This Maha Vidyalayam which was founded by late Vairamuttu Velantham
in 1895 has completed more than 113 years in the spheres education,
Hindu religion, Tamil language and culture.
Velautham was a versatile scholar, philanthropist, educationist, a
Hindu reformer and above all a great personality with a mind of noble
thoughts.
