Applications called for National Civilian Bravery Awards 2009
The Foundation for Civilian Bravery is accepting applications from
Sri Lankans seeking to nominate candidates for the Awards for Civilian
Bravery as conferred by the Foundation for 2009.
Those eligible for recognition are citizens of Sri Lanka who
courageously - without concern of danger to life or limb - volunteer to
save others whose lives are imperiled by tide, fire, mine, and rough
seas and similar dangers occasioned by natural disaster or man-made
disasters. The awards consist of the Budal Na Gold Medal and Silver
Medals for Civilian Bravery.
On receipt of the applications, a panel of judges will select the
persons to receive the awards on the basis of interviews and any
available supporting evidence.
Conditions:
The closing date is January 15, 2009 and the applicable period
January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008.
Applications may be submitted personally by the candidate or anyone
who is acquainted with the incident; the responsibility for providing
evidence lies with the applicant and the candidate;
previous awardees of the gold and silver medals are not eligible for
consideration; the award consists of a medal only and the Foundation
does not issue financial grants; and the decision of the judges shall be
final.
