Amresh takes boys under 18 singles title

Seeded number three Amresh Jayawickrame put up a stunning performance
to topple the top seed and the favourite Michael Siyaguna in the boys'
under 18 singles final of the Milo Junior Tennis National Championship
being held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts, Colombo 7.
Amresh won the final in a straight two setter. Both sets went to the
full distance and ended up with tie breaker (7/5,7/5).
Both players had a chance of winning the title but Jayawickrame held
his nerves to add the finishing touches. In the semi finals Amresh
Jayawickrame got the better of Dineshkanthan Thangarajah 6/2,6/4 while
M. Siyaguna outplayed G. Weerasekara 5/7,7/6,6/4.
Meanwhile, Jithmie Jayawickrame cruised into a convincing straight
two setter victory over Sherene Wijesinghe the winner of the Outstanding
Junior Sportswoman award.
The former won the first set not going down even one game and took
the second and last set giving away only one game played yesterday
(6/0,6/1).
In the semi finals Jithmie Jayawickrema beat Nilupul Gunasekera 6/1,
6/1 while Sherene Wijesinghe beat Druvinka Moraes 6/2, 6/4 to book her
place in the final.
