Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Nishantha
Hapuarachchi yesterday directed the Immigration and Emigration
Controller, not to allow Mohamed Mul Karmil, a former officer attached
to the National Savings Bank, Nawala Branch, to leave the country
without prior permission of the Court.
The Court made this Order on an application by Chief Inspector Lalith
Weerasinghe of the Nugegoda Special Crime Investigations Division.
CI Weerasinghe submitted to Court that he conducted an investigation
against the officer Mohamed on an complaint made by NSB branch Manager
D.N.J.K. Gamage, that the officer Mohamed, was alleged to have paid more
money than the value of the jewellery pawned at the bank.
Investigations revealed that most of the jewellery pawned at the bank
were not genuine.
The Court also informed the Judge that the bank officer Mohamed was
absconding since investigations commenced by the Police.
The Court directed investigators to conduct further investigations
and submit a comprehensive report on the next date, September 18. |
