Eighteen teams for Charles Robinson Hockey Tourney

Eighteen top hockey clubs are scheduled to participate in the 12th Charles Robinson Memorial All Island Seven a side Hockey Tournament scheduled to get under-way at the St. Benedict's College Grounds, Kotahena on Sunday, July 27.

The tournament is organised by the Matale St. Thomas' College, Old Boy's Association, (Colombo Branch.)

The first match starts at 8.30 am and the teams include last year's champions Army Sports Club. Teams from the three security forces, Police, Matale, Wennapuwa, Kandy and leading clubs from Colombo are scheduled to prove their mettle at this year's tournament.

Considered to be the premier hockey tournament in the country, the venue was shifted to Kotahena this time around especially as a honour to this Colombo locality that has provided veteran past hockey players, especially Benedictines who had represented Sri Lanka over a number of times.

The champs and runner-up are due to receive cash prizes and awards while all participating teams will be honoured with certificates. A rich cash award and a trophy awaits the Best Player of the Tournament.

This year's tournament is sponsored by the ICICI Bank Ltd, Elemech Engineers (Pvt) Ltd., and Elephant House.

All participating teams should be present for the opening ceremony scheduled for 8 a.m Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Entrance is free and all hockey loving public are invited and are assured of classic hockey.
