UNP’s political bankruptcy is crystal clear - Information and
Media Minister

“The UNP hierarchy is adamant and not interested in fulfilling wishes
of its party supporters. The leadership could have given the opportunity
of fighting for the Chief Ministership of North Central Provincial
Council to UNP Parliamentarians from and within the NCP such as P.
Harison or Chandrani Bandara without giving the chance to an outsider
like Major General Janaka Perera.
The nomination of Janaka Perera as the North Central Chief
Ministerial candidate shows the acute political bankruptcy of the UNP,”
said Minister of Mass Media and Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at
a special press conference held at ‘Milano’ auditorium yesterday.
Ministers Duminda Dissanayake, W. B. Ekanayake, D. M. Jayaratne, S.
M. Chandrasena, Tissa Karaliyedde were present.
Minister Yapa said that Janaka Perera, the UNP nominee for the North
Central Chief Ministerial portfolio has now embarked on false propaganda
campaign saying that he had not been provided adequate security. When
the Government offered him a team of police officers headed by a
Sub-Inspector of Police he refused them.
The State Intelligence Services would decide the level and degree of
protection to be provided to Janaka Perera.
Minister Yapa said that to get the sympathy of voters in the NCP
Janaka Perera and his team who were sure of certain defeat at the
elections, were fabricating false stories misguiding the masses.
“We are 100 per cent sure that the people in the NCP will show their
gratitude to the President who rescued them from LTTE murderers and
providing all basic amenities would usher the UPFA into power with an
unprecedented majority. Now we are endeavouring to be super victorious
at the NCP Provincial Council elections. The people in Rajarata
descending from heroic kings would definitely reject retired Army
Generals and vote for the UPFA,” the Minister asserted. |
