Dunhinda Helana: Musical show

'Dunhinda Helana', a musical extravaganza to felicitate the old songsters and songstresses, organised by Mithrodaya Society, Panadura will be held at the Agamathi Balika Vidyalaya today at 6 p.m.

The chief guest Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray and businessmen of the area will present mementos.


Heavy rain in Maskeliya

Water levels of Mousakelle in Maskeliya, Castlereigh in Dickoya, Canyon in Hapugastenne and Laxapana in Norton Bridge are rising following the heavy rains being experienced in these areas.

Rivers, streams and oyas are flooded following the heavy rain, sources said.


SAARC Friendship village in Nawalapitiya

The Nawalapitiya SAARC Friendship Village constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) to commemorate the SAARC Summit will be ceremonially opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the invitation of Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff and Power and Energy, Minister Mahindananda Alluthgamage tomorrow.


Islamic day, prize day

The fifth Islamic Day and annual prize day of Amana International School will be held on August 3 at 10.00 a.m. at the Bishop's College Auditorium, under the patronage of Higher Education Deputy Minister M. Musthapaha as the Chief Guest.

Students who won places in the Islamic Day competitions held in the school and also students who excelled in studies during 2007 will be recognised and awarded trophies. Teachers are also to be awarded mementos.


SAARC handicraft show

Rural Industries and Self-employment Promotion Minister, S.B. Navinna will open the special handicraft exhibition on July 29 at 10 a.m. to coincide with the 15th SAARC summit. The exhibition will be held until August 3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.


Azwer on SAARC

Presidential Adviser and former minister A.H.M. Azwer will be interviewed on ITN today at 10.30 a.m. on the importance of the SAARC summit, its progress and benefits.


Traffic restrictions

Traffic from the Galle Face roundabout to the BMICH and from BMICH to the new Parliament will be restricted tomorrow from 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon due to security requirements, Police said.

Traffic along the Colombo-Katunayake road on the same day will be restricted from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

The public is requested to make use of alternative roads.


Bai'ath ceremony

The three day International Conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community being held at Hampshire UK will include a worldwide Initiation (Bai'ath) Ceremony held every year at the time of annual convention where large numbers of people from different countries gather at some places in their countries and then via satellite take an oath of allegiance at the hand of the Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad. This ceremony is to be held on July 27 (last day of the convention) at 5.30 p.m. local time.


Free Lecture

Almuslimaath, an Association of Muslim Women and Girls, have organised a seminar for women on the topic 'For a happy marriage', both in English and Tamil on July 26 from 9.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. at the Malsara hall, Dehiwela. Resource personnel will be Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Mareena Thaha Reffai and Moulavia Zulficar.

Senior DIG Kingsley Ekanayake has been appointed the new DIG in charge of Northern and Eastern Provinces by the Police Commission. DIG Pujith Jayasundera succeeds him as new DIG Central Province.

The 18th annual general meeting of the Old Boys' Association of St. Anthony's college, Panadura will be held tomorrow at 9.00 a.m. at the college hall. Old Antonian, former Staff Assistant Sri Lanka Telecom C.S. Peiris will be the Chief Guest.
