Construction industry responsibilities reinforced

The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NASL) has drafted a corporate plan for all stakeholders in the construction industry, its Chairman Dr Rohan Karunaratne said.

"Under the various planned activities in the corporate sector we will assign responsibilities of each activity to the committees under the chairmanship of different Board of Directors," Dr Karunaratne said at a media conference.

Currently, NASL has more than 5,000 members in the country including North and East. A steady growth in construction sector is seen in the Eastern Province, he said.

Dr Karunaratne said that there is provision in the constitution of the NCASL to offer Associate members of the suppliers, bankers, insurance companies who are involved in the business related matters in the construction industry.

As a part of the corporate plan, NASL will organise the Sri Lanka's largest ever construction related exhibition "Construct 2008" for the eighth consecutive year, which will be held from August 8-10 at BMICH.

The event will bring the entire value chain of building and construction industry under a common roof for the dissemination and sharing of knowledge in advances made in skill and technology, he said.

Construction 2008 with over 280 stalls also includes a special enclosure a gallery for the suppliers and service providers to exhibit the latest and gleaming state-of-the-art machinery and equipment to update the construction industry. It is said that more than five countries and more than 30,000 are expected to participate in the event.

The Chairman of the Exhibition Organizing Committee Mahanama Jayamnne said that the "Construct" has continuously grown over the years and the special innovative features as compared to the last year.

He said that this trade fair and exhibition would feature the latest products, technologies and services in the sector.

It is the ideal meeting platform for wholesale and retail suppliers of the industry with builders, engineers, contractors, and architects and others who involved in the construction sector.
