Debutants Civil Security Force enter semi-finals

Holcim FA Cup Championship:

Civil Security Force the debutants to the Holcim FA Cup Championship moved into the semi final when they completely outplayed Maligawatte Youth Sports Club three goals to nil at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

Maligawatte Youth played their usual game for 35 minutes giving their opponents a tough time but the Force players made many inroads towards the goal area but was not on target to get the much needed goal. Anil Shantha put the Force’s side in front at this moment.

Once they got ahead the Maligawatte Youth SC were disturbed. The Civil Force got settled down well and scored their second goal through Anusha Jayashantha just five minutes later and the lemons were taken Civil Force leading 2-0.

The turn around could not produce any surprises for Maligawatte Youth, though they tried hard to reduce the lead. It was bad luck for Maligawatte lads when mistimed kick from one of their defenders went to the net with the custodian advancing to make the score three nil in favour of the Civil Force. That was the only goal that came in the second session of play.

On Saturday soccer’s Glamour Boys from Pettah Saunders SC went down to Police four goals to three in a penalty shoot in the first quarter final. The lemons taken with a nil all draw. Seventy minutes into the game Chathura Samarasekera scored for Saunders and were moving towards the semis.

Last minute goal from Police Sanjaya Pradeep levelled the scores. The referee introduce the penalty shoot from which the Police booked their semi final berth.

The second game between Air Force and Blue Star SC too was decided on a penalty shoot out as this game ended in a one all draw. Both teams failed to score in the first session of play.

Imtiaz Rahim scored for Air Force while M. Issadeen got the equaliser for Kalutara team. In the penalty shoot Airmen finished as winner with a goal margin 8-7 to qualify for the semi final.

Ratnam SC win

The Premier League Champions Ratnam Sports Club found their way to the semi finals of the Holcim FA Cup when the defeated Army three goals to nil yesterday under lights at Sugathadasa stadium. At half time scores were level one all.

For winners E.B. Channa (1), Nadeeka Pushpakumara (1) and Pradeep Kumara scored, while Dilusha Perera (1) and Lasantha Kumara with a penalty found the net for the losers.
